My Desk.

Yesterday, I was at home for the whole day! That was rare and I really treasure the time I had with this house, especially my room. After uncountable months, I finally had myself settled down to pack my room, to be exact, my notes and table. I spent the whole day, about 5 hours, filing up all my things, dumping away unnecessary papers and wiping out all the dirt. After which, I seriously had a sense of satisfaction. haa...

Before

After

Please do not tell me there's not much of a difference. I might seriously drop down and cry.

Later at night, I finally did my subject registration for my university. Pray hard that I would get the Science and Technology, Medicine and Environment in China Module. I really do not want any Chinese exam to do with history or philosophy or politics! The following are my subjects for Physiotherapy (Hons) in Hong Kong. Hope that I would do well. Mummy only agreed to pay for my Masters only if I do well. Oh well. ".

ABCT218 PHYSIOLOGY
HSS201 GENERIC ANATOMY
RS203 FUNCTIONAL ANATOMY
RS266 MOVEMENT SCIENCE
RS269 PRINCIPLES OF PT PRACTICE

Some fun things to play with. =D

The Big Red Button

2nd last weekend Singapore 2007

Yesterday on the phone, my friend asked me to contemplate on one question. Am I being so happy lately because I want to cover myself with something I do not want to think about? Well, my auto reflex was to say that I am indeed a bit lost due to the fact that I am leaving Singapore. As I had mentioned, emptiness and uncertainty were something that often loom over me when I am alone, thinking, either in front of the computer or alone in my cozy little room. "Think deeply," he said solemnly. Maybe, indeed, there was something that was bothering me. Somehow, I am afraid that I would change. Change in such a way that I would upset the ones around me. Change in such a way that I became too independent and lost all my naivety. Change in such a way that I would become less concern about my family and forget about all the happy hours I had with friends. Definitely, I am thinking too much. My friends shouldn't have brought up that dumb question. My brother had been away for one year and he was back well and fine, although his perception about the world might have changed drastically. People change, doesn't they?

One weakness about me is that I am fearful of disappointment which happens so frequent in our journey on Earth. Overcome my weakness, can I?

For now, I shall recite the joyful moments I had in my second last weekend in Singapore 2007.

Saturday

Mummy was as usual getting into her excited mood by the time I opened my eyes and did a slow stretch out on my warmth bed. "Wake up, wake up lo, Daddy's hungry," Mummy was shouting around in the house. Brother Goat was still lazing on the bed as I crawled into the toilet. Moments after, I found myself bumping into Daddy's car and ended up in White Sand's car park.

Ya Kun 亚坤 Kaya Toast

We planned to eat our favourite Kaya Toast and half-boiled eggs at Ya Kun but to our dismay, it was so crowded that landed us in McDonald. Daddy was being so funny that day. He sang, "I'm loving it! I'm loving it! Mc Donald's." lol. I went to buy the meals and the Aunties was extremely nice by giving me students price for all the 4 meals. ^^ Later, we shopped at NTUC for our groceries of the week.

In the afternoon, our whole family supported brother at the Blood Donation Drive at HSA. Having eating medicine for the past few days and being low blood pressure, I could only watch at the side. Well, there was a lady that fainted on the spot. Gosh.

We went roaming around Outram Park and I helped Brother to select a few of his shirts. He insisted on my opinions although he ended up choosing the style that he liked. Maybe, he just need confirmation that girls wouldn't think that he look too ugly. haha. Later, we strolled to Raffles Place and found lots of pubs with good seats and cheap drinks. Regardless, our family ended up with the famous prawn noodles around the area.

At night, I went swimming with Daddy and Mummy and I fell asleep not long after I reached home. zzz. ^^

Sunday
Pictures say a thousand words.

WC n Me wif the NDP lion cap!Cute. ^^ Waiting for the Daytona Go Kart! =D

Pilot on a flight! Handsome? ^^
`See me fly, I am proud to fly up high...`

Me on the Choo Choo Train ^^

Family Coaster
We took this for over 8 times. ThRILL!

Spot the Moo Moo cow btw us. =D
We brought some game coupons and raced horses with other strangers. We lost by a small margin and we were really heart-broken. We ended racing with eachother and I won! Here's the Moo Moo Cow. We had great fun though!

Interesting incidents:
WC got laughed at by some small boys and girls as he got so excited over the rollar coaster ride. He ended up saying,"Goi Goi very funnei meh?"haha.
We were bullied by 2 small boys at the bumper boat ride. I was wet from bottom to top because of that. We were too tall to take cover.lol.

Look at the rainbow! Nice phenomenon! :D
Taken outside Tampines Mall.

Hazel,Me,WC:D

We went for a movie at Shaw TM. We wanted Simpson but he didn't want us, so we ended us watching THE PERFECT STRANGER. Gobbled up a whole packet of potato chip. WC was shocked at our achievement. haha.

I really had great fun!
That's what friends are for.
All the best for school.
One Physiotherapist, one Doctor, and one Life Science freak.
We are going to rock the world one day with our love for the world, our love for the people out there.

=D Farewell. Cum S'pore Bday.

Wednesday 8th August 2007

Today, my friends held a farewell dinner for me! :D
Talked a lot of crap stuffs. It made us very happy though. And that's the most important thing in life right? Thanks, everyone, thanks for being there for me. Physiotherapists rocks! We rocks!

Us at cafe cartel.=D
Miss out wif Bd after that.

Random. ^^fun.

That morning, Nat, HX and me went to school at 0830 for a chat, maybe, to bond and talk about problems. Sociology test started at 1100 and I went to the library for a rest and wrote a diary entry to myself. It's nice to write out my feelings; it made me feel better for no apparent reason.

Later, we had our lunch, and went roaming around Far East. I was getting quite high over there with all the music 'blasting out' from the shops we passed by. It really brought me back to the days when I had great fun mass dancing with my JC mates.

Next, we found ourselves rotting at Orchard Library. There, we contemplated on where to go and ended up calling Bd for advices. He suggested a Japanese restaurant which we all heard and interpreted it to be "Hamtaro". lol.

...Cafe Cartel...Finding seats...Nat's worries...Arrival of BD...Laughter...Dinner...Pub...Burger King...Poisonous stuffs...Phobia...Mrt...Home sweet home...

I seriously love my life.

Our food. Bd tot that Nat is gonna to gobble down all the food due to some sad reasons? lol

Today
Singapore's Birthday! =D
My brother and I traveled to Kam Boat Dim Sum Kitchen in Marina Square, our favourite dining place, to have lunch with dear Ce Xiang. We chatted about Mr. Goh's stuffs and things concerning love. CX and brother seemed so desperate in finding one girl friend. Well, maybe, this kind of thing does revolve around their brains quite often? How about me? Well. Speechless.

Brother Goat and I had great fun singing national day songs and getting ourselves entertained in front of the TV. =D We ordered pizzas and it took around 2 hours to come. At least, we could order from Canadians, we couldn't get through all the other pizzas' shops. Daddy was at work, doing a very important job in ensuring that we can watch TV at home. Mummy was there enjoying herself with a book.

Now, I ended up in front of the computer, everyone in my house is asleep.

These days.

Monday

Most of my friends were having Kinesiology Practical exam and hence were studying and at the same time, freaking out along the J corridor. I was as normal, accompanying, trying to read some articles and testing my friends on some questions. Here are some random shots.

Lim Jie doing an ulnar deviation?

Hui Juan looking scared?

Natalie freaking out. Her Natalie's syndrome again!

Just me.:D

Tuesday
This morning, I was Wee Kok's patient for his exam. He was ever so naggy and funny in his doings and explanation. He was asked to palpate T3 and brachioradialis and I was instructed by him to take out my tank top right from the start. Cold. *_* Moving on, he couldn't draw a marking on my vertebrate using a pen and therefore, Ms T, ended up to ask him to use the black whiteboard marker. During his MMT, he went on explaining to me how my muscle would response if I was very weak. He ended up with his exercise prescription question by asking me to purchase the Threband from the 'PT Clinic' downstairs and explaining to me the different strength of the different Threband.

Everything was fine until they tried joking with us something that was not supposed to joke about. HX was pissed and I was quite saddened although we two got fine after that. Sometimes, we just had to be use to his insensitivity.

I went to collect my Mum's watch from Lavender and went traveling around Arab's street alone. There is nothing quite special about the place. The shops sold a lot of fabrics and silk and most of the owners had sharp features. duh. It's just basically a street of shop houses, just like China Town. Then, I went bumping into the Masjid Sultan Mosque, followed by the Malay Heritage Centre. Acted like a tourist, taking random shots and headed home.

Reached home and left not long after to help my Mum post some letters. Hopped into the gym and started my 40 minutes run. Some random old guy jogged beside me, trying to pace with me, which he failed in the end. Yet, I found some fun running with him though. haha.

Around 6 plus, I crawled home sweating; Mummy said some girl called "MISA" phoned me. I was shocked as I thought it was "Mina", it ended up to “Michelle". MUMMY!

HX sent me a sms that sounded urgent. Called her and I was freaked out for a moment or two. Things turned out fine anyway. Life is good.

Some History

Lavender is also a place I had loitered for the past 7 years. I started off as a small cadet in St John Ambulance Brigade HQ till I ended up becoming an officer. In between, I learnt a lot and had loads of emotional up downs one could ever imagine. I laughed my heart out many times, I cried for many times; in a nutshell, it's something that gives me many memories. It helped me to mature, to become a better leader and wise in my thinking. Disregard the conflict between the people; I treasure this place a lot. Somehow, it shaped me like how my family has.

Beach Road. A place wif VERY nice Kway Tew!

Get to know yourself better

Get to know yourself better
Your view on yourself:

You are down-to-earth and people like you because you are so straightforward. You are an efficient problem solver because you will listen to both sides of an argument before making a decision that usually appeals to both parties.

The type of girlfriend/boyfriend you are looking for:
You like serious, smart and determined people. You don't judge a book by its cover, so good-looking people aren't necessarily your style. This makes you an attractive person in many people's eyes.

Your readiness to commit to a relationship:
You are ready to commit as soon as you meet the right person. And you believe you will pretty much know as soon as you might that person.

The seriousness of your love:
Your have very sensible tactics when approaching the opposite sex. In many ways people find your straightforwardness attractive, so you will find yourself with plenty of dates.

Your views on education:
Eucation is very important in life. You want to study hard and learn as much as you can.

The right job for you:
You're a practical person and will choose a secure job with a steady income. Knowing what you like to do is important. Find a regular job doing just that and you'll be set for life.

How do you view success:
You are afraid of failure and scared to have a go at the career you would like to have in case you don't succeed. Don't give up when you haven't yet even started! Be courageous.

What are you most afraid of:
You are concerned about your image and the way others see you. This means that you try very hard to be accepted by other people. It's time for you to believe in who you are, not what you wear.

Who is your true self:

You like privacy very much because you enjoy spending time with your own thoughts. You like to disappear when you cannot find solutions to your own problems, but you would feel better if you learned to share your thoughts with a person you trust.

The Real You
Here is the analysis:

You are a very serious person. You tend to be quiet and well behaved, and you don't have a great deal of self-confidence. You prefer to be alone rather than with friends and that could make you a little less interesting to certain types of guys. You are very attractive in an individual kind of way, and this means it can take people a little while to get to like you.
You really care about other people's feelings and are quite serious about the issues that affect your life. You are sincere, and your concern for the well-being of others makes many people want to be your friend.
You strictly follow rules, and you expect other people to be the same as well. People can get tired of you easily, as you can make them feel a little guilty about themselves. You always make decisions on your own, and can be dismissive of other people's advice. You like to be the leader in groups, but can forget to be concerned about the people you are with.
Your peers think of you as a fun person, but sometimes you can be a little irresponsible. You can be somewhat childish, and can try to ignore the fact that you will one day need to really grow up and be a mature adult! Perhaps you could start reading good books; they might help you look at the world in a different light. You do want to be taken seriously, right?
Your boyfriend believes that you are a strong and independent person. Your confidence and cheerfulness make you an attractive person to be around, but sometimes you need to pay more attention to what other people, including your boyfriend, are thinking.

What's your personality love style?
Here is the analysis:

You desire a love that will last forever. You are quite serious about finding this type of love, and that's why you think carefully about the men that you meet before deciding whether you could really love them. You don't just develop a crush on someone overnight: you look at a person's personality and other aspects of their life before deciding to form an attachment. If a guy doesn't meet your expectations, you would rather be alone. Your love has to be perfect. Be careful though, you could be missing out on some worthy relationships because your standards are so high.

True? Most of it seems to be but for some,I really don't know. I don't really know myself sometimes. Or I didn't want to admit that I am actually like that. Hmm.

2.5 more weeks to HK.

Many would find me blogging more often than usual. Well, I have 2.5 weeks left in Singapore and as a 19 years old girl; I want to record all the tiny bits and pieces of happy memories I had on this small island in the year 2007. Time seems to fly away at such a great speed without you really realizing it. The feeling of uncertainty is looming over me at a greater extent each day. Many individuals have once left their homes feeling unsure and insecure but in the end, they are the ones who ended up not returning home. Would I be one of them? As for this very moment, I would say no; yet, the future is so unpredictable. Isn't it? It would depend on so many factors that may even be beyond my knowledge at this moment of time. Career opportunity? Family? Mr.Right? Yet, I would love to return home. It's a place where I belong. Isn't it?

On Friday, my friends in school were going to have some unimportant exam and hence I decided to skip school and have some fun with friends in the good old days. JP,TW and me met up with Xiao Ni after 1.5 years, she was well, fine and looked the same as before. :D We ate at KFC and she insisted on taking a photo of me. I felt so honored. lol. We went ice skating then. That was simply a place where I could fly. I loved the feeling, such an indescribable feeling. With friends, it really added on to more fun and joy. ^^ I could have to wait one more year before I could skate with JP n XN again. Something that I am really looking forward to in the next year.

Pu Pu and me!

Me and Xiao Ni

Afterthat, I went to VIVO to collect my repaired camera for free!

Went cycling with family today. Had my seafood feast at Long Beach! ^^ Simply loved it!

This is so touching.
I want to love you but I couldn't reach you.
The more I couldn't love you, the more I want to love you.

lol.

My life is really full of fun and joy. I am glad to have a happy-go-lucky character such that I can view most of the intolerable things in my life as a joke.

Yesterday, a random London traveler sat beside me in the cabin of the MRT. He closed his eyes and slept. After a moment or two, his head started swaying. It got nearer and nearer to my shoulder and finally, it landed smoothly on it. I was quite disgusted as a strange smell was effusing out of his skinny body. I tried pushing his head and to no avail, he continued sleeping sounded. I poked and poked again until the people opposite me started bursting into laughter. I was extremely embarrassed until this gentleman beside him stood up and offered his seat to me. I was definitely very grateful. However, when the train started, the traveler tilted to my new position again! He even tried placing his hand on my knees. Automatically, my reflex told me to elbow him, with great force this time. Finally, he woke up and said millions of sorries. He said he was traveling for three days without sleep and that he was moving on to Thailand. Gosh. Now I wonder whether he had been bathing for these 3 days or not. Nevertheless, I was still courteous enough to wake him up at Tanah Merah.

Today, there was guy in my condominium that did his weight- training in the gym without switching on the lights and air-conditioner.

Weird people do exist around us.

Yesterday, some visitors came to our school. We acted dumb trying to do some exercises using the threband in front of the mirror. X even told us to take down the balls which Y claimed it to be "such a nonsense". lol.
Anyway, the visitors loved the show put up for them. I overheard them saying, "Excellent! Excellent!". Are we monkeys? lol.

These days In Singapore. 2007

Thursday

Thursday was the last day of our Anatomy Practical for Semester One in NYP. As usual, my group arrived at the lab early to study about bones and catch up with our daily life. I were there guiding more of studying, my mind had actually drifted away the moment I told Dr.U that I am not going for her practical exam. Maybe, I should have been less frank. Yet, I had more time for my friends that may require help in times. Well, I really do treasure this moment of time I am spending with them.

Dr.U walked in SILENTLY as usual and as always, I would burst out saying something very loudly. For example, I would exclaim things like the bones are broken and that why Dr.U is still not here. The irony is that Dr.U will always smile at the things I said. Well?
For this practical, she told us about a few sad stories that actually served as a warning for premarital sex and precaution to a boy girl relationship. She goes on talking more about childbirth and abortion. Her stories are always stimulating and educating. No one would ever doze off in her lessons.
Afterwhich, our class proceeded to study on the cadavers and I hopped out of the room to take my notes. Dr. U grabbed me and we started on a long conversation. It lasted about 1.5hours. Indeed, it was pretty long, long enough for me to express my feelings, know about the little and big things happening around NYP, the life in UK, Dr.U's feelings on HK and Singapore and remember the little but important tips she had given to me. Thanks a lot.

In the afternoon, I became a delivery girl for my class, bringing in shirts of different sizes to and fro our J room and the girl's toilet. We had loads of laughter though.

At night, I caught up with my buddies from secondary days. We chatted, joked, waited and had baked rice from XinWang Tea House! I then shopped for Shu Hui's present - cutie Mickey Mouse bottle. Just like the old days, I went home with JP! That ended my day great. :D

Friday
This was a happy day because it was Shu Hui's Birthday!
This was an embarrassing day because so many incidents happened unexpectedly that made me feel abnormal.
In the morning, my friend group meet up for a swim. Someone was there as expected? A small hello and we moved on to the pool, jumped in after 3 weeks of torment! The feeling was great, splendid! I swam and swam until that someone came and my surgical plaster on my leg started peeling off. Never mind that, I continued after throwing away that plaster just 1m away from that someone and happily, I finished my 20 laps and moved on to my favourite activities in the pool. I flipped, turned, rolled... ... Then all of a sudden, I had a leg cramp and hence I struggled to the side, in front of a bench with stuffs that belong to that someone. After which, that someone came back and started packing his bag in front of me, well, he tried to back face me. It just makes me feel like I am spying on that someone. There, at the side, waiting. It might be such a small thing that plays no significant in my life. Yet, for that moment or two, it disturbed me, for no reason, maybe, for no logical reason.

Buddy HuiXin was not feeling well that day and went to Anatomy alone while we gobbled down our food. She went home alone too. I was guilty but at least, I helped HJ through Anatomy and HX was consoled through my SMS.

Another weird day.
But well, my family is always home to bring me laughter, although, Mummy got a little upset with Brother returning home late that day without prior notice.

NYP Pool! Where we swam. =D

Just things in life.

Today was another totally unbelievable day. One week into my 19th years of life and everything seems to turn so unexpectedly strange, well, strange. I feel strange because a lot of astounding things just happened in my life and I do not know whether it is simply coincidental or it is something being planned.

I was walking home this evening and found that the portion of the drain I fell into was actually covered and there was a bar at the side to prevent me from dropping in ever again. Is someone spying on me for no apparent reason? Someone so powerful and concerning to actually take action on my fall. For now, almost every teachers and seniors knew that the dumb I fell into the drain. Thanks to the bandage I had on my leg. For those that is still concerned about it, the wound has actually dried up and I am well enough to go for gym; sadly, but not swimming.

Debate between the two SHS groups was impressive and our physio team was really grateful that they did not get into finals. Anyway, they ended everything well. Real great I could say, it was a tremendous improvement from the first debate. The final between the SBM and SHS was something which I considered it as a failure. Theme: The house believes that abstinence from sex education is an outdated notion. They ended off saying about the different flavour of condoms and the SBM team simply gave lots of statistics without much substantiation.

Something joyful then happened in our friend group. It was something expected but I was still stunned, really stunned for a moment or two.

Ms M finally knew that I am going to HK. "You have a place in HK PolyU right?" She asked with a blank look in her face. She didn't sound happy. Maybe, she didn't like the idea that there is one less PT in her cohort. I do not know, maybe, I rather not know. And our senior, Keat, knew something that he really shouldn't know; well, and I am very disturbed that he knows about it.

As for me, I am attracting a lot of unwanted attention recently. Many of a time, I am just being myself. Or is that something wrong with that "myself"?

Tomorrow is Anantomy lesson and I am not studying. I hope that Dr.U doesn’t ask me anything, I do not want to disappoint her again by saying that there is actually a thenar artery. At least, I want her to leave a good impression of me. She is indeed a very good teacher that I pay a lot of respect to. Cheers.

Balloon dogs that I made for Shu Hui. Good Luck for the debate.

Best friends at NYP. After the debate.

Weird Day.

Today, I set off in my Daddy's car and he decided to send me off to school upon reaching the MRT. Indeed, I was happy as I do not need to squeeze my way through the forever crowded MRT.

A weird day then started... ...
I forgot my balloon dogs and left them in on my Dad's car.
And due to some reasons, my friends decided to keep on shouting my name.
And some weird senior in school tried to initiate some conversation with me.
He even went to the extent to find out where I am posted to. Totally weird.
I tested my friends on nerves and was confused about the location of proximal ulnar nerve.
Hj booked the J room at 1500 and we stayed until 1500 outside the room and left.
My brother is unusally late for dinner and I had my dinner at 0800 plus.
Weird day. Weird time. Weird year.

I am feeling weird now.

Happy birthday to me!

Today is a great day simply because it's my grand 19th birthday. I can consider myself to be extremely lucky and fortunate to be surrounded by great friends and family members on this very special day of mine.

This morning before I even opened my eyes, Mummy was singing the Birthday song to me and hurrying me to wake up to enjoy my little birthday celebration. I dragged my injured little leg down the bed and rubbed my two sticky eyes. Everything started great! My Brother Goat was already amazingly awake and helping my Mummy with something that I didn't have the energy to find out. I washed up and as I turned into my living room, everything was set up. The candles had already melted half way I supposed and that got us singing the forever sweet and heart-warming Birthday song. I made a wish or maybe two wishes. Later, I got my knees down on the ground and served tea to my parents, this was a yearly routine and it's a sign of filial. In turn, I got 2 red packets that served as a blessing. Daddy then drove me off to school. That started my day real great.

My birthday CheeseCake

Happily singing my Bday song

I reached school at around 0800 while my lesson was going to start at 0900. As usual, I met WeeKok and started chatting with him about stuffs in school. We never runs out of topic which I do not know why. Later, our senior, Keat, went by and started a conversation with WeeKok. I was bored when suddenly he turned to me and asked, " I heard that you are going to HK soon?" I answered and he went on, " That's mean you very zhai la, cuz my two HK friends who applied last year did not get in." I was lost for words when WeeKok said, "Yea, she is damn zhai." Well, I thought of a humble and truthful reply. Maybe, they just missed their applications and I was one that was eager enough to go and fight for my rights. News spread fast. Is this good news?

My gang of friends came at around 0835 and they sang me the Birthday song again. I was so touched. Friends are always there to further lighten my heart. They even gave me a huge Winnie the Pooh cushion. Really loved it! Thanks gals. As for HuiXin, she made me a bead flower by hand, it really warmed my heart. A really big hug to you.

Hui Juan,Me,Lim Jie and Pooh Pooh

Plus Isobel and Hui Xin.
Nat and Shu Hui went to the tiolet I guess.

Later, I had my Physiology and Sociology lecture until 1300. After class, as my group was lothering around the vending machine. I heard someone shouting "Hong Konger, Hong Konger" all over the corrider. It took a moment before I could react. It ended up to be Dr.Tan trying to introduce me to our biomechanic teacher, Mr Ng. The scene was so cute, Dr Tan even asked me about my wound. lol.

I went to support Nat, WK and SH for their debates. The judge there was simply amazing in his analysis and articulation. I left early and didn't really know about the final result.

At night, my family took me to Changi Village Hotel, Salt Water for buffet dinner. I had loads of good food. Steak, grilled, salted, steam, baked, whatever you can name it. It ended with tasty teramisu Chocolate Cake! Simply loved it!

We took pictures there after! Home sweet home!

Garlic Bread with 3 differents kind of sauce.
Red garlic sauce, sweet sauce and prawn sauce.

My family, my life. =)

Brother and Me. In love forever and ever.

My 19th Birthday ended great!

Plus all those Birthday wishes from SMS and MSN. They all brighten my day. Thanks for remembering and being there for me.

In school, I learnt how to palpate for finger bones today. Thinking that I could defintely forget this after a week or two, I decided to take a picture of my own hand in order to keep it in memory always.

For the General Public
Pic on the left: Palmar suface
Pic on the right: Dorsal surface

To paplate for
1) Scaphoid: S
Spot for S on the dorsum - do a radial deviation (move arm to the right) look for the groove below the thumb and feel for a round bone.
Spot for S on the palmar - extend your wrist and feel for a round bone protruding out.

2)Trapezium: TM
Spot for TM on the dorsum - Slide down from your index finger and feel for the first round bone. The bone on the right of the trapezium is the trapezoid.

3)Capitate: C
Spot for C on the dorsum - Slide down for your middle fingers and feel for the first depression. Now, flex your wrist and at the same position, you are actually touching your lunate.

4)Triquetrum: Tq/Y
Spot for Tq on the dorsum - A small bone can be felt just above the styloid process of your ulna.

5) Pisiform: P
Spot for P on the palmar - A round bone below your small finger.

6) Hook of Hamate: H
It's deep! Try pressing to feel for it.

Interesting? This is what physio students do in their kinesiology class. I love it for no apparent reason. Well, you usually love something for no reason right? Is it human preference?

In our Kinesiology Class.

Me and my injuired leg in our Kine lab.

NYP Pool. A place which I deeply treasure and adore. Gonna miss it. I hope my leg can get well soon! I want to jump into the pool! Today, I waited for HJ near the poolside, trying to imprint every part of it into my memory.

Interesting Fact:
Fractures involving the carpal bones account for about 18% of hand fractures.1 The scaphoid is most commonly fractured, accounting for about 70% of carpal fractures. Next most common is the triquetrum. It is important to suspect and recognise carpal injuries as they are difficult to diagnose and can cause permanent disability if untreated. The usual mechanism of injury is high energy – a fall onto the outstretched hand or direct trauma to the wrist area. Where carpal fracture is suspected a full range of x-rays in the AP, lateral and oblique views is needed.

Dreaming

Something is very wrong with me recently. The problem is that I do not know the reason, maybe to be truthful; I do not want to believe in the reasoning that I have provided myself with. The date for my departure has been confirmed to be on the 22nd of August. It's only about 5 weeks from now. Time really flies in a twinkling of an eye and that scared me somehow. Although I am a person that can easily adapt to the environment around me, the fact that I am going to a place that require me to be extremely street-smart and where old friends doesn't exist is bad enough. I would need to accommodate to relatives and this is something that I have not been practicing for my past 18 years of life. Rumors spread like a bullet train without you really realizing it. Well, I am basically obliged to be self-aware and at my best behaviour all the times.

Hong Kong is simply a complicated place for a blur kid like me, many warned. I was told to keep in mind a few things. Firstly, I am not to be kind-hearted and assume that everyone has some good in the world. Do not offer any help without trying to ask for something in return. Secondly, I am not to dress too much of revealing clothes as I could get raped anytime. Hong Kongers are more conservative? Thirdly, I am not to share any food and drink with anyone. Do not place too much trust on the ones around you. Well, can I do it? I hope so but at the same time, I do not wish to become too cynical about the world.

Something really dumb happened to be the day before yesterday. I was heading to the MRT station and turning back to wave frantically at my Mummy on the 9th floor as usual. All of a sudden, "THUD", my right foot was slipped into the drain, followed by my left foot. I extended both my arm for support and my palms collided with the edge of the drain. My right shin and left thigh was lacerated, badly. Then, I heard Mummy shouting on the 9th floor that I dropped into the drain. She was anxiously asking my brother to come down and cradle me up I supposed. I managed to drag myself back though and had treatment done by my brother. A really big thank you although my leg still hurts me.

The wound.

After the fall, I met my primary school friends at Bedok. Desmond and Herlina actually turned up later than me, as usual. We went rotting at East Coast Park and had our dinner at Galare Cafe. We had two tubes of ice cream too and played cards! I really enjoy this simple life with friends, simply friends.

Sunday, I traveled with my parents all the way to Suntec to look at my brother's Johns Hopkins's booth for a mere 10 minutes. You can call us "free people" as much as you want. Mummy dragged us into Pepper Lunch to have ice cream?!? Daddy was exhibiting his nagging skills by warning me not to walk too near the wall and the roadside and not smsing while walking throughout the trip. My brother must have gotten the genes from him.

Another dumb thing happened on Tuesday that showed my dreamy mood; I was wide awake and staring at the child opposite me on a trip back to Tanah Merah. Well, I ended up in Tampines for no apparent reason. I was basically dreaming and I was still wondering why the journey took such a long time. Sometimes, I think it is really necessary for me to slap myself in the face.

Anyway, I am after all going for a better education. Those 3 years might change me, change my perspective about life and the world, and make me more independent or even more. What I want to do now? To treasure my remaining 2 days to be an 18 years old girl and the days remaining in Singapore for the year 2007.

Recently.

Life has never been as exciting as this few weeks. A lot of things happened when I am gone for that 3 days to Hong Kong.

26th of JuneSingapore-HK
Daddy and me took off from home at around 4.00am. Interestingly, we met up with a bunch of China tourists who do not understand the announcement made in English and a stewardess who tried but failed to translate her English script into Chinese. She ended up saying, "board fei qi!". The AngMo next to me was laughing his heart out until his whole face turned into a red apple.Reached HK at around 1000 and waited patiently for our shuttle to Shamrock Hotel. After which, Daddy treated me to Dim Sum, duck noodle + more more more.

We managed to settle quite a bit of things that afternoon. I settled our school fees. (first we took money from one bank and transferred it to another which my univeristy recognises) We went to Mongkok to buy Daddy's upgrading tool and went all around to search for DBS to try withdrawing money using my Singapore DBS card. It works though. Later, we went shenshuipo to change Daddy's driving liscense. We even went shopping. All it took was 4 hours. Mad? That's efficiency! As for that evening, we have dinner with relatives from my maternal side. All my cousins are getting more adorable each day.

27th June 2007
Woke up at around 0900 and went all the way to TaiKoo to have lunch with Daddy's third Aunt. Found out that she actually has a bone spur at her lower vertebrate and that is affecting her whole of her left leg that day. I tried teaching her some exercises that strengthen her back, hope that it will work. Practising illegal physiotherapy again!

In the afternoon,I travelled to Hong Kong Polytechnic Univeristy for registration.
A 15 mins matter took me about 3 hours of my time! The staff there do not understand why I have an ordinary pass for my General paper written on an Advanced Level cert!!! That's me. Always having a confused status.

28th June 2007
Back in Singapore and Daddy being really pissed off with Singapore's taxi service. He was scolded by the driver for not having a $10 note and giving him trouble with a $50 note. Well, this is Singapore.

29th June 2007
Most shocking new. Confirmed that P n K is a couple. I don't know, I really can't believe it. Moreover, I'm having too much of a conversation with X that set my head spinning. Stories that I am happy to know but in another way, I rather not know.

30th June 2007
Have dinner to Uncle Ken and shop with brother at Tampines Metro!!! Clearance sale.

1st July 2007
Watched JUMP at esplanade, though it is not as nice as Nanta, it is still simply amazing and funny. Really loved it. Have a tea break after that at Hands and ate Sabu's ice cream. ^^ A day out with my whole family. Lovely. ^^

I felt like I have grown up.

It's have been long since I blogged. I am lazy, busy and whatever excuses I can provide myself with. Life has been exciting, adventurous, interesting and tiring for me. After several phone calls to Hong Kong Polytechnic University and an interview with Dr. Kevin Kwang, I am finally accepted by them; in just a mere two weeks time! My application was definitely misplaced! Following was my Foundation in Physiotherapy project, we created a theme AMAZING RACE which is so time-consuming. I dragged through that fun and exhausting week. It was time to go for my Chiangmai Study Tour! Our lecturer turned so lame during the trip that it could not have been boring. The Thai there was indeed real friendly and warmth. I even got a chance bumping into two of their ICU wards. (will recite more of my stories in my previous post.)Most importantly, I went on a mini trekking and had three massages in just one week.

I will be travelling to Hong Kong on Tuesday for registration.
Monday will be Kinesiology Practical Test which I willingly volunteer to take.
I am still a little confused about the difference between palpation and the MMT (manual muscle testing). Hope I survive through my first and last Kine test in NYP!

Testing of the Sternocostal head of the Pectoralis Major:Arm is abducted 60 degree and adducted against resistance.

That's only one of the many to go.

P.S. Brother Goat is back in Singapore. His hair looked like Simpson.
K Box tml so it's really time for me to go and study!

Guys Like That You're Sensitive

And not in that "cry at a drop of a hat" sort of way
You just get most guys - even if you're not trying to
Guys find it is easy to confide in you and tell you their secrets
No wonder you tend to get close quickly in relationships!

Haha. I think this is very true. Is this a good or bad thing?
Wow. Even my horoscope confirms it. Hmm.

Cancer zodiacal signs explained

You are extremely sensitive, a quality that has its good and bad sides. Speaking positively, no other sign except Pisces feels as deeply as you do. You've had a great deal of tears-in-your-beer nights, and these experiences have led you to a deeper understanding of life, and a strong commitment to care for others, because you know what they're going through in times of trouble. You comfort, you counsel, you console. This makes you an ideal friend. Once you make a friend, you're always there for them, to bail them out, to keep their secrets, to take their hysterical late-night phone calls. If anyone or anything threatens them, you're the first to defend them- not by erupting into attack mode, but by retreating into a bunker and lying in wait, like a crab retreats into his hole. Your first line of defense is your tough outer shell, which is hard enough to crack. If threatened further, you then attack with your pincers.

The outer shell metaphor extends to the fact that you're most comfortable in your own home- more than any other sign, you are the domestic expert. You know exactly which furniture goes with which decor, or how to hang blinds, even how to fix the faucet. Combined with your caring side, this makes you an ideal mother or father-no matter how busy your career may get, your family and home life will always come first.

This is so me.

i luv sch.

Ignore the post previously; I am just being very moody for the few hours or so. Pre-menstrual symptom. Going to school is something that I really look forward to each day. My friends are great people, we joke, laugh, do silly projects and search for suitable candidates. I am more bizarre now than I am back in JC. My class is more dynamic and we definitely had extremely interesting practical which could definitely keep you awake. We got our hand going onto places that are so adventurous; we go slotting them into people's butt to feel for muscle. We looked and touched cadavers, and tried hard to differentiate between veins, arteries, muscles and nerves. I am like memorizing muscles everyday on the train. Not just the name but the origin, insertion, nerve supplied and the actions of each.

FOr example,
Muscle: Trapezius
Origin: Medial third of superior nuchal line, nuchal ligament, spinuos process of C7 to C12 vertebrates and external occipital proturberance
Insertion: Lateral third of clavicle, acromium and spine of scapula.
Nerve supply: Spinal root of Accessory (CNX1) and cervical nerves C3 C4
Action: Elevates, retracts and rotates scapula

I baked Brigadeiro, a Brazilian dessert for our project. It was sticky, chewy and tasted okay. Represented my group to present and overheard one saying that my presentation was good. (make me happy after that)

I have one new eye candid lately. Well, hope that he would teach me flipping (while swimming freestyle) one day. He is a very well-toned swimmer. ;P Time to say good bye to my previous candid, Mr Se., my dear adorable Physics lecturer. (heard that he is no longer teaching in MJC, sad.)

Here is the link to my photo to Sentosa.
Physiotherapists ROX!

Thanks Brother for the invitation! I could really like to go. Paris is the next dream place for me! I am learning French by the way! Salut! :)

Just thoughts.

All of a sudden, I felt so bored reading my anatomy and physiology book. Maybe, I am just tired. Life has been different and great for the past few weeks. Games with new friends and seniors at Sentosa last Saturday, have a glimpse and touched the first cadaver in my life last Wednesday and watched Spiderman 3 with my JC friends last Saturday. I even got a free dinner and cheesecake at Secret Recipes due to a small part of uncooked fish. Sunday was celebration with Mummy, I built a photo frame for her and we went cycling to the reservoir park.

Hong Kong Polytechnic University is not giving me any reply and Daddy worried me by showing me unreliable things. I think I am going to call them up tomorrow if I have a chance to get home early.

Someone in school made me thought of someone else and that occupied my mind for most of today. I tried playing squash to forget about things; it turned out useless though. No more thoughts, maybe, that is something that made me so dull today.

Brother Goat is touring around the world. I just wish I was there.

A moment to remember

Quote: Forgiving is giving your hate just a little room in your heart. ^^

Well, by the way, I teared through the whole movie. The actor and actress are fanastic!

Something to be learnt-Alzheimer’s disease.

In the local film ``Nae Morisogae Chiugae (A Moment to Remember),’’ one of the latest tear-jerkers playing nationwide, a 27-year-old young woman named Su-jin is diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease (AD) after marrying a carpenter who works for her father’s company. Starring the popular and attractive Son Ye-jin as the young woman and the equally popular Jeong Woo-sung as the carpenter, the film is built on the premise that it is possible for someone so young to become stricken with an ``old person’s disease’’ like AD.

Some of us might have scoffed at the improbability of the story. Others might have begun worrying whether our recent inability to remember a friend’s phone number is an early sign of AD. But before we jump to conclusions, let’s look at the facts.

Thanks to Ronald Reagan, November has been set aside as National Alzheimer’s Awareness Month in the United States since 1983. But while there is much information regarding the causes and preventive measures of this illness, scientists have still not found a cure and believe they may never get any closer than finding effective preventive medicine.

Alzheimer’s disease was discovered by a German doctor, Dr. Alois Alzheimer, in 1906 while observing the autopsy of an old woman with dementia, a term describing various brain disorders which result in confusion, a loss of memory and difficulty functioning socially.

When researchers opened the brain, they noticed two abnormal structures, known as amyloid plaques and neurofibrillary tangles. Plaques are abnormal build-ups of a protein fragment called beta-amyloid in the spaces between the afflicted brain’s nerve cells. Tangles are abnormal collections of twisted threads of a protein called tau within the neuron. It is not yet known whether these are the result of AD, or the cause.

There are really two forms of AD; late onset and familial. Late-onset is probably the type most of us are familiar with as it happens to older people. No one really knows why some people contract the disease, but one thing is certain, it is far more prevalent the older you get; the number of people being diagnosed with AD doubles every 5 years over the age of 65. It is believed almost 50 percent of those over 85 years of age are diagnosed with AD, while only around 5 percent of people aged 65 to 75 fall prey to the disease.

Familial Alzheimer’s on the other hand is extremely rare and may occur among those aged 30-60 years. But, as the name implies, it is hereditary. And although the youngest documented case was 28 years old, for Son Ye-jin’s character in ``A Moment to Remember’’ to have come down with this form of dementia at the tender age of 27 is about as likely as her CEO father allowing her to marry a carpenter.

The only exception would be if at least two other family members had also had early-onset AD. But as no mention of this was made in the film we have to presume that, yet again, filmmakers are taking some artistic license.

And what’s more, while both late-onset and familial AD are progressive illnesses that may last for up to 20 years or so, slowly developing from simple forgetfulness and mild depression, to full-blown loss of recognition and almost complete dependence on others for all daily tasks, familial AD, may also progress very quickly, with sufferers dying within a year. So it looks like Su-jin may just be one of the unluckiest people in the world.

Furthermore, due to the current inability to reverse the condition, the best we can do is to reduce our chances by taking notice of preventive measures.

Preventive Measures Against Alzheimer’s Disease

1. Keep physically active. A lack of glucose-metabolism has been found in the brain of both Alzheimer’s sufferers and those genetically predisposed to the disease, according to a study led by researchers at Banner Good Samaritan Medical Center in Phoenix, Arizona. Exercise, such as mild weight training, has been proven to drive glucose into the muscles and brain.

2. Keep mentally active. Develop new skills; encourage the brain to form new neural pathways. For example, learn a language or take up a new craft linking the hands and brain.

3. Eat fish. Cold-water fish such as tuna, sardines, salmon and mackerel contain significant amounts of Omega 3 fatty acids known as DHA, which are part of the structure of brain cells. Other excellent sources include sesame seed oil, flaxseed oil and most nuts. Taking Vitamin E supplements can also be beneficial in this regard. Furthermore, there is significant research indicating high cholesterol is linked to developing AD, so it is important to reduce ``bad fats’’ and consume more ``good fats’’ if you think you may be at risk or have been diagnosed with AD.

4. Raise your estrogen level. As a low-estrogen level post-menopause is considered a risk factor, many women may consider hormone-replacement therapy as an option.

5. Drink sage (Salvia lavandulaefolia or Spanish Sage) in tea form, take sage in capsule form or use as a herb when cooking. A study completed in 2003 by the Medicinal Plant Research Centre (MPRC) at the Universities of Newcastle and Northumbria confirmed a centuries-old belief that sage aids memory.

6. Chinese health balls. Get yourself some Chinese health balls to roll around in your hands while you’re watching TV. The Chinese have used these for centuries to stimulate nerves in the hand and fingers which are thought to connect to the heart, internal organs and different parts of the brain, keeping the brain alert and aiding circulation. The monotonous movement also promotes a meditative state of calmness.

"And I really don't understand why girls like to say negative things about other guys and their professors. When we guys gossip about girls, our comments are almost always 'woah that one so cute' or 'woah that one so chio' and never 'woah how come that one like monster' one. Maybe you really should read the On Female Mediocrity article I linked on my blog.", quoted from HY senior.

Well brother, I totally disagree with you and I think that you have gotten this perspective out of your very own experiences. Actually, girls tend to look out and talk about better-looking or intellectual man; depending on our own preferences. The story about our dear Dr. Tan lasted for about three days and it stopped. My girl friends started checking out for ruggers in the library, as for me, I prefer those matured-looking blue-eyed Caucasian professor. As I am in a Physiotherapy class, we girls tend to look out for body shape; we admire people with good build and could not put an eye on skinny man or overly-obese individuals.

I enjoying talking with my friends about Korean actors. Almost all of them are above 180cm and with very good build and skin complexion. People such as Cyril Niccolai are seriously someone we consider "man"!

On the other hand, I have a lot boy friends that prefer "hot legs" and always tried to indirectly criticise girls that doesn't have a perfect figure. Yet, not to blame them, I like "hot legs" too; trying hard to have a pair of nice legs like Jun Ji Hyun. ^^ Anyway, I remember you (Brother Goat) labeling girls as "pork chop" (meaning ugly girls in Cantonese for a millions of time before your departure to Baltimore.

In our Kinesiology class last week, we learnt to observe body movement. We spent one hour observing our friend sitting, standing and lying for two hour or so. We were told to 'stare' at someone, starting from the feet up to the head. The main difference between that of a jerk and us is that, in our brain, we do not think of taking advantage of the person but words like lateral flexion, wrist extension, hip abduction and so on. Yet, for a layman, no one can differentiate between the both. We scan people from bottom to top. Maybe, it would look better with our uniform on.

Anatomy lessons were interesting as well as pressuring. Dr Ulma expects a lot from us. She warned us at the start that she is going to be very bias and that she would compare between classes and make you feel bad if she needed to. We were taught to memorise the different part of the scapula, clavicle and humerus. Interspinuous fossa, trochlea, capitulum, lateral and median epicondyle and so on. After that, we went on with the arteries, veins and nerves. Well, we are working on the BRACHIAL PLEXUS as a start.

2 weeks into class and I found myself doing a lot reading. Dr Ulma said that lecture only contains 5% of the thing that you are going to learn. Friends asked me whether I had a lot of homework to do, not really I replied, but there is a lot independent learning that I had to do. It's tertiary education by the way.

I opted for Malay Language as my elective. Yesterday class was fun though I couldn't remember much that I learnt.

It’s time to move my leg muscle and go for some studying. ^^
Stay healthy people!

A Passage to Pyongyang

I was reading this article titled "A Passage to Pyongyang" featuring a Singapore journalist's account on his trip to the city of the great Kim II Sung. The description of his depicts North Korea as a modernized and a dynamic country with a certain degree of restriction and strange culture. He wrote, "Traffic lights come on only in winter and there are monuments everywhere. But the people of North Korea are no different from you and me.” Are there really no differences? Does the journalist know that he is only comparing the elites of the country to our average citizen in Singapore? I have watched a documentation the very last year, filmed secretly by a foreigner pretending to be a North Korea, about the truth behind this communist country. From that day onwards, I never believe in anything good written about this country. This video has truly touched me and left prints in my heart. I do not blame the young generations of the North Korea; they are simply brain-washed and are oblivious of the things that are going on at the countryside of their own homeland.

A true brave man had risked his life filming a video and presented to me the cruelty of life; well, I wish I could spread it further. North Korea indeed has a modernized capital; however, they are only mend for visitors and the so-called "royal blood" of the North Korea. The city is empty most of time; there is a gigantic theme park but it's close throughout the year. Well, I guess that they wanted to save electricity since they rather employ pretty girls to mend the traffic than switching on the traffic light. The students spend months preparing for their mass dance to celebrate the birthday of their founders and spend the other months singing songs to praise about him. Those able-bodied strong young man would be send into the army, isolated in some deserted dilapidated factories, training skills on how to be mean and heartless to their own citizens. Their main job is to capture children roaming on the streets (mostly at the countryside) and locking them up in factories that are once used for manufacturing purposes. They feed the children with a spoonful of liquid food everyday and taught them to torture one another. For example, those who disobey the order of throwing stones at one's friend tied on a tree would be shot dead on the spot. These soldiers have become beast in other words, they even raped women and when they become pregnant; they think it's a burden and invented ways to cut them open.

Children on the street have no family; they can only speak simple words at the age of twelve. They steal, rob and pick up anything edible to fight for survival. They do not understand the meaning of dirt and drink anything from the puddle of mud at the roadside. One scene after one scene, I have never been able to forget that moment of truth. We are not talking about the past but the present, this very minute. Many had tried to escape into China, some succeeded but many shot dead. Other nations had tried to help but the food they sent in never reach the needy. That's the reality. Those who have watched the >BLOOD DIAMOND starring Leonardo Dicaprio could better understand. People killed each other for no apparent reason (it's only the leader that craved for the diamond); they are just taught to kill. It is not their natural instinct, maybe, it is their fate.
