Happy Mid Autumn Festival!

Mid Autumn was quite special this year due to the fact that I am now situated in HK without the company of my family members. Though there was no moon, my mood was not dampened; it was my first time celebrating this day, I am definitely full of ideas to make it fun! In the afternoon, I went to school for an one hour lecture and borrowed some Chinese Medicine books. Later, I rushed back to read up on some Anatomy and settled off to my Third's Aunt place. An ordinary dinner we had - Fish, Chicken and my Aunt's fav. winter melon soup. On my way back to the hostel, I bought candles and the joyous part of my day began.

This is the stuffs we did. :D
Played with laterns in the room and took millions of photos. We tried all kind of position to create extraordinary effects. ^^

The rabbit was actually bought by my room mate for decoration outside the room. Yet, we found entertainment playing with it!

Yesterday, I spent my whole day studying Anatomy and Principle in Physiotherapy Practice. Exhausting but I also gained a sense of satisfaction. I also went to the HALL gym for the first time. Freezing cold.

Following is a song to motivate all students in this world. To move on and strive. Never give up!
I feel that this is really meaningful. ^^

Jia you to all univeristy students that are having their tests soon. Good Luck.

... ...

I am seriously feeling guilty now. After I have returned to my hostel at around 0930pm, I have been slacking basically. I doesn't feel right when I didn't open my notes or books to read or just merely stare at it. My first mid-term test is two weeks from now and my presentation falls on Firday. Everything is crashing onto me all of a sudden. Nothing seems to be falling into place. My timetable is so packed and my social and dancing classes are starting soon. Yet, I am still lost in the cloud. I haven;t build up my momentum. I need some more time to fix everything in place. Actually, I am doing quite well. I just need to stop growning and maybe go and replenish my sleep for now.

The clock had just struck 1200, it's the MOON CAKE FESTIVAL!^^ Still happy and thinking of home. ^^

Last Friday.
I learnt diving. Tummy was in pain till today. Sob Sob.

On Chinese Medicine and our walking motion.

Abnormally, I woke up at 1030 am today. I have broken my house rule that I need to be fully awake by 0930 but no one is to bother; I am staying in a hostel now. That's freedom. That's independent. Although there are much more cons than pros, I am not going to think of it, at least for now.

Yesterday classes were interesting and that's the main reason I am posting my lesson contents onto my blog for the first time. In the morning, we did BODY IN MOTION where we learnt about our walking pattern and gait. Basically, we looked at our walking style both quantitatively and qualitatively.

The following contains the elements for a smooth walking.

1) Pelvic Rotation
2) Pelvic list
3) Knee Flexion (bending need backwards) in stance phase (duration when leg is on the floor)
4) Presence of foot/ mobile forefoot (this is important as one would find many of us on planet aren't born with a perfect leg)
5) Co-ordinated movement through co-ordinated muscle actions. (involving dynamic balance)
6) Lateral displacement of your body.

Later during our lab section , we used the VICON machine to measure the sagittal plane movements of the knee and ankle. It basically uses the opto- electronic method where infrared light is emitted from 6 cameras around the laboratory, allowing the reflection from reflective markers to be capture by the cameras. It's similar to those where one uses to generate fiction characters in movies. Real Cool.

The VIVON system.

Next, we tried on the accelerometers and electric goniometers. It was real fun indeed, but when it comes to interprating the graph, it can be a real disaster. I loved it though.

In the afternoon was traditional chinese medicine, we touched on 陰陽五行學說
which touched on the dark and good side of a force and how the land, water, wood, gold, fire comes into play in TCM! Some attention-grabbing parts from the lecture.

In biology, there are only 3 basic needs, yet in TCM, there are 5.
主要包括精、氣、血和津液。精,是指體內的精微物質;氣,是指極精細而活力很強的一類物質;血,是紅色的液態物質;津液,是體內的正常水液。

The most interesting of the 5 is 氣, it is differentiated into in-born 氣 (元氣) and nutured 氣 (宗氣,營氣,衛氣).

That's the end for now.
I am going to prepare for my Anatomy as I'll be going to open lab tonight to explore on the different nerves and arteries on the cadavers. I have conquer all the muscles on the thight and butt. By next week, I would need to know everything on the knee, leg and foot. Jia you!

Cadaver's lab is opened from 0630pm to 0930pm 3 times a week at our Y block. See us there. ^^

Sept 2007

I suddenly found that I have not been updating myself recently and felt an obligation to do so. Well, it's also really good to keep a record of my busy and hustle life. Memory might fade and this helps to recall. Therefore, I am finally settled down, setting aside some time to reflect on the things that I have done in the past weeks.

Life this two weeks had been so hectic that it had reached a point of suffocation. I have finally experience the life in Hong Kong. Everything here is of great speed and efficiently. As Brother Goat had mentioned, one would feel like they are rushing through their meals although in real fact, they might have a lot of time. Why? Simply, Hong Kong is over-populated and people wants to fight for survival and do business. And in economics, time means money and Hong Kongers are really concerned about that. The more the merrier. Therefore, workload increases by 100000.

Last weekend, I participated in the Orinetation Camp organised by my Hall (hostel). I was staying in a girl's hall and hence there was no boys or man around. Well, there was another element of fun in that but I often feel like guys could enhance the joy we had. There was a total of 3 groups. Two from mainland and one that consisted of Hong Kongers and all the other foreigners, which we called the "Cantonese Group". Basically, our seniors introduced us to loads of good food around our area.

The following is one example; the "MILK EGG" there is extremely nice. I tried it last Saturday midnight. ^^

One night, we even played Amazing Race and ran around the whole of Whamphon. I am not lack of adjectives and exaggerating. We really ran for a total of 1.5 hours. Expectedly, we won but no prizes were rewarded and we ended up joining the forfeit for the game. Crazy girls.

Sunday afternoon was fun! We had a cooking competition and we went "auntie-ing" at the market and made a lot of sumptuous dishes! I even made a cock tail look-a-like drink. Everyone was so hungry that the food was all gobbled up. Hostel finally felt like home for a moment of two. Photos to be uploaded much later. :P

During one of the game, I turned out to look like this. "P ugliness.

I was back to reality on Monday. My muscles and VAN (Veins, arteries and nerves) are piling up. Nothing is installing into my brain. Priniciples of PT practices is ignored. Trying hard to catch up with Biomechanics Everything is in a mess and I haven't gotten it sort out until today. Moreover, I have missed the open lab last week due to laziness. I feel so guilty now, I missed the quiz questions!

The effect: They'll come haunting you in your dream.

I have mentioned to some of my friends that HK is really polluted and that my lungs would turn black when I return. Here is some evidences. This is a place where I need to pass by to school everyday.

Look at the amount of cars and people.

One day, I went to the library and found a McMinn's Colour of Altas in Chinese. I was so elated and decided to take a photo of it. Rare sight in Singapore.

Yestesday was great, I went for volunteer work at two different schools. We did some health check-up on the students and taught them some exercises and mini-aerobic dances. All the students were obesed! They were so round and adorable!

Today. Rm.

There is something wrong with my blog that doesn't allow me to post any photographs.
Went to Jordan to buy my lab coat.
Trying to run through all the things learnt in the past 3 days.
Felt really bored.
Yet I doesn't feel like interacting with others.
Why?
I felt like playing with old friends.
Yet, there is no such things as old friends here.
How?
Orientation Camp for my hall starts on Friday.
I am already being identified as the swimming gal.
Gosh. I don't even know how to jump down from the 'swimming board'. See. I don't even what's that called.
I felt like hugging my orange blanket.
I should have went out to eat with my room mate.
It's not good to be alone, thinking. Thinking too much.
I should go back to study now.

1st day of my univeristy life.

My alarm on my table rang at 7 am sharp and I springed out of bed without any dreams or second thoughts. It was the first day of school and I couldn't afford to be late. I was trying to be elated about school but my eyes were simply not coporative. I kept on having this urge to jump into my warm and cosy bed to continue my rejuvenating sleep with my lovely roommate who was still in her little dreamland. I stripped and had a steamy bath. Poured a drink into my cup and set off. I went downstairs, having the thoughts that I would get a place for the fittness course that allows me to enter the gym. Unexpectedly, a long queue awaits. It was 8.05 am and I had a class at 8:30am and hence I decided to book in the afternoon after school.

School today was terribly exhausting. I had 9 hours of lectures in a roll with only an hour break in between. Lecturers here seldom give a break, at most, it would be a five minute toilet break that is of no use at all.

I started off with Principle of PT Practice which is the same as Kinesiology. Ms talked about health care system, our clinicals and the structure of an elevation form. It was quite boring and I was nearly falling asleep. Next was Generic Anatomy. We learnt about all the head, neck and face bones and their respective movements. It was quite interesting with Sir showing us pictures of ancient Jap and Hk actresses. He emphasized that it was to enhance our memory on the movement involved. Coming up was Physiology which touched on cells and stuffs. My classmates beside me were asking to translate those terms into chinese for them. Gosh. How could I know?

The last lecture was MOST INFROMATIVE, intersting as well as exhausting. We covered so much stuffs that were really beyond my expectation. In 1 lecture, we did anatomical terms, ligaments, gluteal muscles, hip joint, sacrol and lumbar plexus and even clinical application. It is no wonder that they are able to finish the whole of anatomy in one semester. In this lecture, we are all given a MOUSE, this was for us to answer quiz questions throughout the tutorial in the lecture hall. Real amazing.

That ends my day.

Lunch: Roasted duck.
Dinner: Oil Chicken. (direct translated^^)

I didn't get a place for my fitness course in the end, it was fully booked. :p HK.

Me.

Getting away from home might not be as easy as it seems. It is different from going for camps or trips when you know you would be back home in a few days or weeks. Life is ever more exciting in Hong Kong but the fact that I am not back in my cosy home is quite unbearable. I am indeed very happy that I have met a room mate that is real friendly and nice. However, something inside me feels really wrong. Something that control my heart and emotion. Something that I seldom talk about openly. Maybe, it is just the great effect of hormones.

I was born a Cancer and it is really true that I am a homey person. Well, I just need time to adjust to my environment. Things would be better when school starts, I would be busy studying and excising. After a while, I am feeling okay again.

As a whole, I really find Hong Kong quite different from Singapore. Throughout all the occasional visits to Hk once a year for the past 12 years, I haven't realised the contrast until I stayed on and be an independent girl.

The following is the differences I have found in the past weeks.

1) SmS is more expensive than phone calls and hence students here do not sms.
2) Students here find English harder than Chinese. duh, everyone knows that.
3) Lifeguards must be present before you cam jump into the swimming and you can't leave your belongings along the poolside. Now, i need to swim with a key stripped around my leg.
4) I need to attend an introduction and safety course before I can go to the gym. They are so afraid that I could get injured.
5) I need to pay for my Canto First Aid Course conducted by SJAB.
6) There is always a lot people on the street and train regardless of the time.
7) Services here for places like the bank is really splendid.

These are the interesting differences...
Many more to go... ..

Houses
Due to limited space and not very excellent town-planning, one can see old residential areas in high-end places like Causeway Bay. The vehicles with the green top are vans. They are like buses but you will need to shout out to the driver on where you want to stop.
@Krispy Kream Brother said this is one of the best dougnut stores around in the world. It is quite common in the US. In Asia, this is only franchise which is located here at Times Square.Taking a photo with Simpson in a Simpson T-shirt.
