Incentive spirometers encourage sustained voluntary inspiration to a maximal inspiratory volume with an open glottis. The design allows the ball in the 1st chamber to be raised by the top by an inspiratory flow of not less than 300mls/sec. 2nd chamber --600mls/sec. 3rd chamber --1200mls/sec.
Remember that holding the ball up is more important than the number of balls raised!
